You're correct that the tires still depart the wheels...after 5 flights on the "new and improved, guaranteed not to come off " tires from Dreamworks, mine departed on takeoff last weekend. I'm going to drill/tap the wheels like BVM and if that doesn't work, I'm throwing the whole retract system in the trash.
