Default RE: Deanodizing Dogbones?

ORIGINAL: cannouu
hmm, now im thinking to repait all my dogbones and silver parts black. is painting dogbones a good idea?
The paint will hold up OK on the shafts, but it will obviously wear off the ball ends and drive pins, as these portions rub against the steel drive cups. I'd say it's not worth it, but that's just my opinion. I couldn't care less about what color my drivetrain parts are.

is there such thing as black iron oxide ina can that i could get at a local hardware store?
Heh, I love how everyone wants a quick fix in a can for everything. The black oxide coating process involves a chemical reaction carried out at high temperatures, it would be pretty difficult to do this at home without specialized equipment.

i want to paint things such as shock springs, brake caliper, spur gear holder, and some outdripe shaft cups. any help?
Of those parts, regular enamel paint that you can buy at a hardware store would work only on the spur gear holder. It would quickly wear off of brake calipers and the inner surfaces of outdrive cups, and crack and peel off of shock springs as they change shape. IMO, you're better off focusing on running your truck rather than trying to perfect the color scheme.
