Default Deanodizing Dogbones?

Hey guys i was wondering how i could deanodize or decolor dogbones. look:

The one the left is original, the one on the right is what i want it to be, it doesn't even have to be shiny, just bare metal.
Thanks you for your help!</p>

The coating is not anodizing, it is Fe3O4, black iron oxide. You should be able to remove it with a moderate strength acid. There is a product available at most hardware stores called 'Muriatic Acid', which is a ~30% hydrochloric acid solution. A few minutes of soaking should remove the black oxide coating, but be warned that the parts will begin to rust immediately afterward, so be sure to coat them with light oil after rinsing off the acid.

The paint will hold up OK on the shafts, but it will obviously wear off the ball ends and drive pins, as these portions rub against the steel drive cups. I'd say it's not worth it, but that's just my opinion. I couldn't care less about what color my drivetrain parts are.

Heh, I love how everyone wants a quick fix in a can for everything. The black oxide coating process involves a chemical reaction carried out at high temperatures, it would be pretty difficult to do this at home without specialized equipment.

Of those parts, regular enamel paint that you can buy at a hardware store would work only on the spur gear holder. It would quickly wear off of brake calipers and the inner surfaces of outdrive cups, and crack and peel off of shock springs as they change shape. IMO, you're better off focusing on running your truck rather than trying to perfect the color scheme.

I had a set of dog bones that looked like that and didn't care for them because the fronts where polished and the rears where coated. I put the rears in a hand drill and spun them at slow speed while holding a piece of red scotch bright up againist it. Coating was gone in just a few seconds. I then used some mothers metal polish to make them shiny. Took about 2 mins per side to make polished dog bones.

Of course you can't do the ball ends but that didn't bother me as they are tucked up inside the cups anyway.
