You may have a hard time finding suitable NiCad packs, and I bet they are more expensive than LiPo's. And, as Jester said, they will be heavier and have less power. I would go with a 1500-2000 mAh 3S lipo. You can get them from Hobby City for $15-20. You could probably find a similar motor and esc there as well.
