Man, all the replies doesn't make my choice any easier. I have to assume that I will own more than 10 planes. I am incredibly hooked on this hobby. I see a future of giant scale and smoke! Actually have been thinking about smoke since I started building the decathlon. Anyway , the more I think about it, I may just have to go with the DX7, although thinking to that the 10 channel would last me well into the future. I aspire to be like minnflyer and doing product reviews and such. Have alot to learn before getting that good. But my days are consumed with this hobby. Reports at work are late cause I can't stop reading about flying RC. No doubt I am addicted. ''hello my name is Bill and I'm an RCplaneholic''. I'm trying to maintain a practical attitude though. I hope to go with my first kit this winter. 1/4 scale corsair. Pappy Boyenton scale. I'm a Marine that is the way it's gotta be. HE was is my hero. Just gotta try. Not getting any younger, just have to go for it.
Maybe you want to be looking at a 9 channel radio. It sounds to me like you already have something that works in the interim. Radios
should last a very long time if you get the right one, so they are worth spending extra money on. Whatever you do, just make sure you think about it a lot. Don't buy something just to buy something new - do the research and get the right radio, even if it ends up being the DX7. This all comes out of experience of buying radios wishing they did something more shortly thereafter - that really stinks.
One option is to get a used JR 9 channel FM radio and get a module. This would give you the ability to fly your FM planes/receivers, upgrade to 2.4 whenever you feel like, and get a great deal on a great radio.
