I had a Futaba 7C, liked it, but sold it to upgrade to a JR X9303, which I like even better. I sold my 7C for what I paid for it, but threw in an extra receiver and a case - for $300 - and bought the X9303 with a 9 channel reciever for only a couple hundred more. It's also nice with a JR or Spectrum if you like any of the bind and fly airplanes.

Man, all the replies doesn't make my choice any easier. I have to assume that I will own more than 10 planes. I am incredibly hooked on this hobby. I see a future of giant scale and smoke! Actually have been thinking about smoke since I started building the decathlon. Anyway , the more I think about it, I may just have to go with the DX7, although thinking to that the 10 channel would last me well into the future. I aspire to be like minnflyer and doing product reviews and such. Have alot to learn before getting that good. But my days are consumed with this hobby. Reports at work are late cause I can't stop reading about flying RC. No doubt I am addicted. "hello my name is Bill and I'm an RCplaneholic". I'm trying to maintain a practical attitude though. I hope to go with my first kit this winter. 1/4 scale corsair. Pappy Boyenton scale. I'm a Marine that is the way it's gotta be. HE was is my hero. Just gotta try. Not getting any younger, just have to go for it.

Maybe you want to be looking at a 9 channel radio. It sounds to me like you already have something that works in the interim. Radios should last a very long time if you get the right one, so they are worth spending extra money on. Whatever you do, just make sure you think about it a lot. Don't buy something just to buy something new - do the research and get the right radio, even if it ends up being the DX7. This all comes out of experience of buying radios wishing they did something more shortly thereafter - that really stinks.

One option is to get a used JR 9 channel FM radio and get a module. This would give you the ability to fly your FM planes/receivers, upgrade to 2.4 whenever you feel like, and get a great deal on a great radio.

Thank you RCKen. iv'e been arguing that feature with the spectrum for a long time,, there's nothing like a preflight check before
you even start your engine.and as you taxi out to the runway.
I been useing Futaba since i can remember with out any problems with them, and i will never change.JMO
If you dont preflight i personaly think your asking for trouble.
Go for the Futaba, you wont go wrong.

i have been useing futaba. i started with the 4yf then got a 7c (which i like a lot) and now i just bought a 10c nib off ebay for 350. i wanted the module verson which they dont make anymore, i have no idea why they didnt improve anything just made it intregrated, how stupid. so browsing ebay i stumbled into that great deal (2.4, 14ch rx, and lipo battery), im going to buy a 72mhz module for 20 bucks off of servo city. so i can use it with my previous airplanes, seeing as i filled up my 7c model memory, and then some.

the only complaint i have with futaba is that the throttle only has 24ish "clicks" which isnt a problem unless im trying to hover, where one click the plane would climb and click lower and the plane would fall. its not a huge deal seeing as its fixable. it would be nice to have 75 or so clicks.

Hi billd76,

I don't think you will find a "definitive" answer as to which brand is the "best" as all the major brands perform very well otherwise they wouldn't survive in the industry. Just to throw in my two cents worth I moved from JR to Multiplex some years ago and really like the intuitive programming. Hey if I can do it without the instruction book open it is easy.

Multiplex have just released 2.4 sets and are not the cheapest but IMHO worthy of consideration.

Cheers,

Colin

I have been reading threads here in RCU for about 6 months.  Also read any review I could find.  Price is a factor for me.  Also I do not see myself needing over 6 channels for several years.  Or having more than 10 models.  That being said, I have chose the Airtronics 8 ch 2.4.

Hey Steve
You are gonna like that one. I have the airtronics rds8000 2.4 and the DX-7. The airtronics is easy to program. Good luck with it.

I just ran out of memory on my 6EXAS and decided to buy a 9CAP off ebay as well. Reason I went this way was: price (72 Mhz with 3 crystals shipped for $140), Expandability (room for the CAMPac module to increase to 14 models or 8 +6 models per CAMPac), and (Modular Transmission in the back), and Features (I think 9 channels will be enough for me).
