I was asked a while ago to publish my DX-5E button mods and I have been lazy...... So now that I have a new DX-5e I did take pictures and will now share the wealth. As always, this is a conversion at you own risk. I have modified a half dozen or so radios an only ruined the first one (five years ago now). For the project you will need a screw driver, wire, soldering iron, wire stripper/ cutter, radio shack buttons (push to connect version) and a little zen.

Step 1 remove the screws holding the radio together.
Step 2 locate the correct stick you have your elevation set to. In my case the elevation and traverse are both on the right hand stick.
Step 3 Remove the button plugs on the right hand side of the radio. You may have to remove a fair amount of hot glue.
Step 4 Use a dill bit to hog out the opening to match the radio shack button. I choose to put two buttons in the radio, one for the cannon, one for the MG.
