I was asked a while ago to publish my DX-5E button mods and I have been lazy...... So now that I have a new DX-5e I did take pictures and will now share the wealth. As always, this is a conversion at you own risk. I have modified a half dozen or so radios an only ruined the first one (five years ago now). For the project you will need a screw driver, wire, soldering iron, wire stripper/ cutter, radio shack buttons (push to connect version) and a little zen.
Step 1 remove the screws holding the radio together.
Step 2 locate the correct stick you have your elevation set to. In my case the elevation and traverse are both on the right hand stick.
Step 3 Remove the button plugs on the right hand side of the radio. You may have to remove a fair amount of hot glue.
Step 4 Use a dill bit to hog out the opening to match the radio shack button. I choose to put two buttons in the radio, one for the cannon, one for the MG.

Goal of the button is to make the radio think you have thrown the trim forward momentarily. I located the leads and soldered some some spare wire to the contact points. Also I connected the leads to one of the loops on the switch.
Be careful and use heat sinks as to not melt the button or the contacts on the radio. I must now locate a receiver for this project as my Br6000 won't Bind.

What do you mean you cannot bind it too the BR6000? Does it work, and are you saying you are cutting into the 3 movements that goes off the left stick and the elevation still works fine?
Thanks,
Phil

Blitz... The radio Mod did not affect the right channels at all. (they still work on my USMC Sherman) You must keep the rate switch in high and done correctly, you can leave the trim tabs even. I could not get the radio to bind to a BR-6000. My original radio works great with the included AR500 but this new one was a deal from Craig's list. Once I get a few more pennies in the bank I will move to an AR500 off ebay. Right now my spare cash has been used to entertain my lady friends.
