Make sure once you DO successfully bind, to bind a second time with the throttle all the way down and other controls at neutral to lock in the fail safe positions. Here's what the last step in the owner manual for the AR500 Spektrum reciever states for example:

"After you’ve set up your model, it’s important to rebind the system so the true low throttle and
neutral control surface positions are set."
