Hi sporefan, welcome aboard. A chunk like that would probably have some effect but it's fixable. Small chunks can be sorted out by covering the gap with some fibre tape. Bigger chunks might need some filling with a foam cutout. Cardboard might do at a pinch. Try to keep the curve profile.

Can you post a pic of the damaged area? Also it's best to strengthen the wing first to prevent damage. If you search this thread you will find some good tips. If you don't find them just ask and we'll point you in the right direction.
