Default RE: To pattoncommander hatch queston????

second attempt. Site timed out while I was getting photos.

The M-26/45/46 & 47 all used exactly the same hatches for DR-BOG. They do not slide. The slot is for the torsion bar to assist opening that 120+ lb hatch. If a bar breaks, it takes a very strong man to open it ...from outside. Inside,, forget it! The hatch has a hook that engages a flange on the outer rim of the hull and is released by a spring loaded handle on the lower inside of the hatch. (TC hatch likewise). The small box at the back of the hatch is a fire extinguisher release and the handle should be painted red.

The blower housing can be found in variation, depending on where the tank was made. Some very square, some rounded off, some semi rounded face, the first 2oo had a smaller housing. The HL Pershing is pretty accurate other than the auxilliary periscopes that should not be there. This is a Korean War Pershing and only has the periscopes in the hatches.
