Back in the day, (early 90s), when they went from wide-band to narrow-band channel spacing (It was a Federal Law I believe), the gold sticker was a narrow-band verification. Didn't have the sticker you were not able to fly for interference reasons. Not used now on the newer equipment because the spec has been in place for so long. Hope this mostly accurate info helps.
