Not all temp probes are tapered.. I use the blue duratrax one and it works fine.. what I do is point it at the plug and take a reading, them I point it next to the plug (between the head and the plug) and take a reading.. if the engine is properly warmed up, they should be just about the same.. been doing that for years on the cars I have that don't have telemetry...
