If you're engine is fully warmed up, there should not be much difference between head temp and crankcase temp. Correct place to temp is straight down on the glow plug (close).

See the tapered snout part of this temp guage? It inserts down the cyl head hole to read the glowplug temp.

Not all temp probes are tapered.. I use the blue duratrax one and it works fine.. what I do is point it at the plug and take a reading, them I point it next to the plug (between the head and the plug) and take a reading.. if the engine is properly warmed up, they should be just about the same.. been doing that for years on the cars I have that don't have telemetry...

awesome, so on the photo ive uploaded im getting around 120 degrees at point B, and up around 200 degrees at point A, from what you are saying i should be measuring at point B, which means i need to lean more to increase the temp
also is attached a pic of my temp gun it has a laser pointer so you can tell where u are aiming for temp

Is that the flash thats making he glare or is the head button that shiney? If the head button is that smooth and reflective the themp gun may be reading the temp incorrectly. Does the IR gun have emissivity settings?
Point B would be a more accurate temp reading IMO compared to point A. I've never seen an engine run well at 120f

Grubster1....your temp gun is similiar to mine. You need to bring it close to the top of the head, so the laser feature can't be used. Basically, move the flat end of the gun around the top of the head...about 1/2 inch away....and look for the highest temp. That will occur when the sensing element in the gun is centered over the glowplug.

sweet as thnx will have another go when this damn rain stops, so technically the whole block should be running round the 220 degrees when warmed up and giving it to it
many thnx will post my findings

If you use a temps gun like grubster1 (and myself) use, you must point the laser light on the cooling head, and not on the glow plug, because the laser light is about 1/2" distant from the sensing element. So if you point it at the glowplug, you will have a temp of "XXX" and when you move it to the cooling head, the temps will rise from a good 50 to 60 degre
