Back in the old days...I made do with no power tools: a small backed saw such as an X-Acto or better yet the four-blade Zona set were best for straight cuts (and with the keyhole blades, minor curves) and a coping saw with bird's mouth support to cut curves and inside cuts.

I still use these much more than my small band saw and I use the scroll saw even less. Use what you have, though as long as you keep building!
