I prefer the band saw, but there are times that a scroll saw is better...such as when you need to make a cutout inside a firewall.

Back in the old days...I made do with no power tools: a small backed saw such as an X-Acto or better yet the four-blade Zona set were best for straight cuts (and with the keyhole blades, minor curves) and a coping saw with bird's mouth support to cut curves and inside cuts.

I still use these much more than my small band saw and I use the scroll saw even less. Use what you have, though as long as you keep building!

Band saw, scroll saw, spindle sander, 1" belt sander, table saw (good for making cheap spruce spars out of a spruce 2x4), and various hand tools.

I have to admit that bandsaw and 1" sander do come in handy when stack cutting ribs or roughing out cowls and fuselage blocks!
