What is the best way to break in an engine? In the book it talks about the 10 seconds rich, 10 seconds lean.....do i leave the engine running full throttle The whole time? My local hobby guy said that he suggested leaving the hsn set rich, and going back and forth from idle to 1/2 throttle for the first tank. What do you all suggest?
Yes, at full throttle, adjust the needle until you get the highest rpm and let'er rip for 10, then richen and go for 10, etc etc etc. The last couple of mine were good to go after a couple of tanks of cycling like that.
As for the LHS suggestion, don't waste the gas, 'cause that won't do much at all. Unless the engine gets to operating temperature no real breakin happens, and running rich doesn't do get near breakin temps. The 10 second cycle is an excellent way to control the heat cycling.
