What is the best way to break in an engine? In the book it talks about the 10 seconds rich, 10 seconds lean.....do i leave the engine running full throttle The whole time? My local hobby guy said that he suggested leaving the hsn set rich, and going back and forth from idle to 1/2 throttle for the first tank. What do you all suggest?

My Feedback: (2)
i bolt my engines on my plane and have at it, no breakin on the bench. what i do is keep the low end very rich and the high end rich, but lean enough where it will clear out.
then i fly it just above the point where the engine doesnt load up for a min or so (usually a little above half throttle) , then lower the throttle and let it cool off/load up, then i advance to the point where it clears out and alternate till its time to land. i do that for a few tanks with a small prop for 2 strokes (11x7 for a .61),
so far i havnt had any problem doing that, and its more fun than watching a engine spin on a bench (which is still fun )
just keep the plane close incase of a flame out, which if you listen to the engine, it is really easy to tell when the engine is loading up/dieing.
if you want to break it in on the bench, use the above method only keep it on the ground.

Yes, at full throttle, adjust the needle until you get the highest rpm and let'er rip for 10, then richen and go for 10, etc etc etc. The last couple of mine were good to go after a couple of tanks of cycling like that.
As for the LHS suggestion, don't waste the gas, 'cause that won't do much at all. Unless the engine gets to operating temperature no real breakin happens, and running rich doesn't do get near breakin temps. The 10 second cycle is an excellent way to control the heat cycling.

Well, if it's a super tigre engine run about 2 gallons of fuel through it.
If it's an O.S. engine run about 1 tank of fuel through it!
Either engine, never run them too lean!
