I am at the point that I could have purchased a Tamiya with the money in this HL, but modifying it iss half the fun for me, so no loss there.
Believe me, there ain't nothing wrong with doing it your way

- With my recent upgrades I have $500 invested in my favourite Panzer IIIL, and now I'm thinking I want to replace the original 27MHz HL electronics and DBC with El-Mod and a 2.4GHz radio because the current electronics package won't keep the IR & cannon flash LED syncronised with the recoil unit... now thats close on $400 worth of kit, but it is my favourite tank and
I feel that its worth spending that kind of money on - like I said: 'Welcome to the money pit'

'Yer pays yer money, yer makes yer choice'
I really just wanted to point out that with the demise (hopefully) of the Panther/Tiger 'PanTiger' crossbreed, the Tiger is now officially the least accurate of HL's line-up by a country mile (the M41 Bulldog being next). Some things can be prised off and corrected realtively easily, others need extensive re-work/scratch building if you want to have an accurate model. Some guys out there are perfectly happy producing very impressive scratch-built models using HL's as a base, others complain that they spent a fortune trying to make an accurate model with the IR battle system, barrel recoil, correct sounds, better gearboxes, and everything else that comes in the box with a Tamiya kit, and were still disapointed with the end result

- and wish that they had just bought the Tam in the first place. If you want a museum quality model, the Heng Long Tiger
is a poor choice [&:] - lets just get that out there right now and not have another round of 'Tamiya is better than Heng Long'

...
I guess to answer the original question: "are they a good choice of tanks" - Personally I would have recommended the Panzer III's as they are 'better' scale models, but the latest Tigers are not bad if you don't want absolute scale accuracy, and both are mechanically 'good enough' if you look at them as toys. The Pershing has too short of a gun barrel, but otherwise its a 'reasonable' stab at a Korean war example. Neither are perfect to be sure, but better than a lot of the toy tanks I have encountered over the years. They'll run ok on carpet, concreate, short grass and sandy soil without throwing tracks. They are made of robust plastic and hold up pretty well to being mauled by small children and pets too if that is a concern to you?
A lot of us here are very happy with our Heng Long toys and look forward to helping you with spares and advice
My experience with RCCommand goes back a while, so I might fall into Googlydoogly's "if you are not a current customer..." comment [&:] - I have only ever had a delay when ordering their unique parts such as the steel gearboxes and custom KT barrel. Communication certainly could have been better, and my expectation of when I could expect delivery could have been better managed -
but so far I have eventually received my order, and I know other folks who have been in the same boat so I'm sure its been nothing personal. If you get really stuck at least a few of us here are good enough customers to hopefully be able to plead a case on your behalf [>:]
That said, if you don't hear back within 45 days of placing an order via paypal then you are entitled to exercise your rights - and I have certainly wished that I had used Paypal with some of the other Jokers out there... (which some other's here swear are honest venders, the moral here is one man's 'go to guy' is another mans thief, huh?)
