Good job not killing the plane
Ive seen it many times that an engine that ran good in the past than put away for a few years has a tough time running again.
For whatever reasons, sometimes the element in an old used glow plug gets contaminated and cant burn clean no mater how long you try. It just results in bad running and dead sticks. You check it and you think its good just because it glows and it can start the engine, but that doesn't always mean it's good. Put a new glow plug in there if your fighting the needles, preferably before.
Of course this assumes your using fresh fuel, right?
