Default It still flies

Flew my LT-40 this morning - 5 fights - for the first time in nearly 4 years. Had some help along the way because my skills are still novice. Fired up the OS .46AX and it took quite a bit of tweaking to get the low and high end responding as they should. Ended up with 2 dead sticks along the way as it seems to be fouling up plugs pretty good. But, by and large, I am satisfied with the day. We'll keeping tweaking the motor to get it right.

I can take off without issues, fly just fine, maintain orientation, but I have a tough time judging speed on the base leg turn and tend to come in high and fast. I've got to consciously override my desire to fly fast. But, its coming. I did do one landing on my own, but the wind was kicking pretty good.

It was good to see the thing fly again after so long and run as well as it did. I'm looking forward to next time. I am so used to this airplane being spotless clean from no use, but since I intend to fly it more, just a "decent" post flight scrub down will have to do. Often-used airplanes will have some dirt and smudges here and there.

Good job on the flight. Keep at it, it'll come to you. Might be better to fly more frequently than every 4 years though.

Good job.

My brother in law is about the same as you. He takes off and flies just fine, yet when he does the approach, he over shoots. He does better when I talk him though it. When to drop power, when to start his flare and so on. It takes time to learn how to fly at slower speed.

Try this, do some SLOW fly bye's at say 50 feet up. Just try to get it to slow down and stay above the runway. Do a couple of those each flight and you will be slowing it down for landing.

The more time in the air, the more fun you have, so do a lot of flying.

Dru.

Good job not killing the plane

Ive seen it many times that an engine that ran good in the past than put away for a few years has a tough time running again.
For whatever reasons, sometimes the element in an old used glow plug gets contaminated and cant burn clean no mater how long you try. It just results in bad running and dead sticks. You check it and you think its good just because it glows and it can start the engine, but that doesn't always mean it's good. Put a new glow plug in there if your fighting the needles, preferably before.

Of course this assumes your using fresh fuel, right?

Again, glad you didn't plant a balsa tree!

bryris,

Just returned to flying myself after 1year and 3 months, it feels great.

Keep it in the air except for good landings.
