I used to run my starter off 2 x 7.2V NiMh packs and on a cold day (<15C) it wouldn't turn over a 1.40Rx. If I charged the batteries prior to use i.e. warmed them up, it would work fine. I then fitted a 4S 2200mAh TP LiPo to my starter and never looked back. The LiPo will last for ages between charges too. I could use it for a month and only put back in ~500mAh. Basically, it transformed my starter. It has no problems starting a big gasser either.
