I've used this setup on my F-84G.
The blancket is wrapped around the pipe and secured with a few dots of high temp ceramic adhesive from Cotronics:

The lap over area is sealed with a 1" high temperature aluminium tape:

That is bullet proof.

Note that you can get 15 m ceramic blanket rolls from Mc Master Carr for a very cheap price...
