Default ways to hold Ceramic Blanket on pipe

Hello Gents

...on one of my new toys i was thinking to cover my pipe with Ceramic Blanket http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/prod...roducts_id=443

just to keep the rear fuse heat low..anyone fly with a setup like that?

since this blanket is fragile how you keep it in place?

maybe carbon kevlar or fiberglass cloth over it ?

thanx in advance for any reply[8D]

Hi George. On my trusty Avonds F15. I covered the blanket with thick aluminium foil & secured the lot with tie wire. It lasted years.

I always put the blanket on the fuselage/hatch or whatever area I'm trying to protect. Usually it's on the top of the fus or over servos/wires along the fus. Regular silicone glue around the edges holds it in place and allows it to be removed when you need to.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to put it directly over the pipe since the air passing over the pipe helps cool it.

FYI, the blankets are very effective.

George. I fitted the blanket & foil when I built the jet, so I don't know how cool it would be without it. The fuz never got hot with it all in place.
I never thought about fitting the blanket to the fuz. I would think that would also be ok.

Regards
Jim

what Craig said is right! Fuselage cooliong air acts to cool and move the pipe thermal build out of the plane....If you cover the pipe, the ceramic will keep the heat of thepipe on/in the pipe and will actually make the metal get hotter

Hi

I also wouldn't cover the pipe with thermal blanket. I use the blanket in areas that are more prone to heat like a bifurcated pipe, etc, but always cover the frame and glue it with high temp silicone (red one) and then put some aluminium tape to cover it.

Good luck

Hi Georges,

I've used this setup on my F-84G.
The blancket is wrapped around the pipe and secured with a few dots of high temp ceramic adhesive from Cotronics:
http://www.cotronics.com/WEB%20SHEETS/940HT.pdf

The lap over area is sealed with a 1" high temperature aluminium tape:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#7594a8/=5l7ie1

That is bullet proof.

Note that you can get 15 m ceramic blanket rolls from Mc Master Carr for a very cheap price...

Oli about McMasterCarr i got this message two weeks ago:

George-

Due to the ever-increasing complexity of U.S. Export regulations, McMaster-Carr has decided to only accept orders from a few, long-established customers of ours overseas. We cannot accept your order and regret any inconvenience this causes you.
Regards,
Kellie

Yes

if you do put the blanket on be sure to check on it from time to time. nothing worse than assuming all is well and good until you melt an airline or servo extension. don't ask me how i know. LOL
