You can use epoxy only, but the addition of microballoons to the epoxy until the consistancy of peanut butter is reached, improves the sandability.

Microballoons are basically tiny glass beads and should be available at your LHS - I have not seen them anywhere else.

Use 30 min epoxy and not 5 min, the microballoons tend to decrease the working time of the epoxy.
