This can help you keep the hole centered.

If you show us some pics of what you have, we may be able to help you work through it.
Just remember, there is not much that you can do that can't be fixed. And probably nothing that somebody on here hasn't already done.

I Had a similar problem when I built my 4*.
What I did was to cut out the upper section of the elevator so that the elevator halves would lie flat and pinned them to the building board. I then filled the hole with epoxy and micro balloons.
Dead straight elevator and been flying for a year and a half.

Oh.... thanks andrew... I think you saved me some time and money....
I here about microballoons...what are they and can you get them other than at the hobby shop?
Can I just use epoxy only?

The method i use to do this type of thing is to wrap a piece of masking tape around the drill bit (much better grip) and do it by hand where you can see it from both sides.
cheers

The best thing you could buy is a GP's balsa building board. They come in three sizes, I like the biggest, 16x48. It only cost $30.00 and will last a long time and will stay dead flat for years. I still use my first one I bought over twenty years ago but, just bought a new one cuz the old was pretty beat up, but still flat.and is still easier to haul around than a door if you need to move it. If $30.00 is to much, your in the wrong hobby.lol

Microballoons are basically tiny glass beads and should be available at your LHS - I have not seen them anywhere else.
Use 30 min epoxy and not 5 min, the microballoons tend to decrease the working time of the epoxy.

Hi!
Brown colored micro balloons is best!
You use them with either 24 hour laminating (not epoxy glue) or polyester resin.
When mounting the piano wire braze onto the elevators it's best to grind the wire web shaped on a grinder. That way you do not get those blunt wire edges.
