I use gorilla glue. A hole punch in the middle, a flattened syringe, a little spritz of water and the job is good till morning when I pull the little blobs off. On my racing planes the wood pulls out before the hinge.
I had hesitant doubts about this method. I did a test. Did it just like vicman says. I prewetted the hinge slot with cardboard soaked with water and worked it in real good. I used elmers ultimate, just like gorilla but really runny like syrup. I let the glue run into the slot and worked it in real good with a thin stick. Punched holes in the hinge. After cured I tried to rip it out. I clamped the piece of wood. (I used a 2/2) grabbed the hinge with pliers and pulled as hard as I could. The pin ripped out of one side but the hinge stayed in the wood. [X(]
I also give each pinned hinge a few swipes with 36 grit to pull up some nylon stringers. Increases the grab...
I will always use dubro pinned hinges and hinge points done like this. I am done with ca hinges. If yer ca hinges aren't wearing out then yer not flying enough! I wore out many over 3 years. I hate ca hinges.
