Was it pulling 33 amps on each leg? I'd measure the resistance of each winding and then check each to ground. Check for resistance across each leg of the contactor and make sure no fuses or a leg of a breaker isn't bad. This is beyond the average electrician, not that your's is average but for an old radio tech it should be cake.
