Do like everyone said. You said the hole was nice and snug - I enlarge it and fill the hole with epoxy (30-min) assemble the elevators and now you have a little wiggle room so you can align them perfectly.

Once the epoxy cures, you have an epoxy sleeve surrounding the wire to give it a more solid bed
