Makes a lot of sense to me. With the typical swept back pattern gear, vertical and front impacts from less than ideal landings result in a twisting moment on the gear mount. With this setup, excessive landing forces go roughly straight into the gear and can be (partially) absorbed by gear flex. I suspect that, with the mount moved under the wing, the designer was able to tie the tear to the wing tube and make a strong/robust and lighter structure.
