Default retract 'O' ring replacement

I have an old Byron P-51 kit, probably 15-20 years old.
The retracts leak air and I want to replace the O)-rings in the brass cylinders.
There's a groove about 1/4 inch from the end where the aluminum end fitting is.
It turns, but I can't pull it out.
How's the best way to remove the end plugs without damaging the cylinders?
I'm sure parts would be hard to come by, but I think new O rings would fix the problem.

Anyone done this before?

Thanks,
