RE: Giant Telemaster - Best Gas Engine selection ??
I used the wood strut with a heavier aluminum braket on each end which worked fine. I noticed some sluggish response on the bird when turning to the right and that should have caught my mind as something being wrong. About 5 minutes later the wing folded. The aluminum bracket that attached to the wood strut had pulled out of the strut. The holes where the 4/40 bolts went through the wood strut and elongated and allowed the wood strut to seperate from the bracket. Your all aluminum solution looks like a winner to me. I did not attempt towing a large sailplane of 20 lbs. I'd say most of mine were in the 5 - 10lb range.
My personnel opinion is a 50 won't cut it. Towing 20lb birds I'd probably stick a 80 in there. With the G62 up front I had to add about 1.5 lbs of lead to balance so you really can't put too big a motor on the front end when it comes to weight. Good luck, Jerry.
