RE: Evolution 46 Problem
Bj, how old is your plane and did you buy it new? The reason I ask is I also have a PnP H-9 Cub that came with the Evolution 46 NT and had more than my share of issues with it. I ran a tank of fuel through it on the ground before the maiden flight and all seemed well. The following weekend I took it out for it's maiden flight, fired it up and let it run for a few seconds, held the nose up at a 45 degree angle and it ran fine. I taxied into position, throttled up and took off. About 50 feet up and down wind the engine quit. I got it back down safely and the only damage was a broken prop. I fired it up again, adjusted the needles and again all seemed well. I took off and about 150 feet up I saw something fall from the plane. It was the left wheel. I got it back down again but broke another prop so I was done for the day. The next time I took it out is when I had all of my problems. I adjusted the carb, took off and during the climb out the engine quit again. After a sweet dead stick landing I adjusted and tried again however during the takeoff roll I ground looped it and was done for the day. I took the tank out and re-plumbed it, replaced the line from the high speed needle to the carb, tried different glow plugs, you name it and I tried it but to no avail. I called Horizon Hobbies customer support and the tech said it sounded like a bearing was leaking air and since it was under warranty to send it in which I did. They said they replaced almost every piece of the engine but still couldn't get it to run right so they sent me a brand new Evolution 46 NX which runs fantastic and has lots of power. If you're still having problems with it and it's still under two years since you purchased it it may still have some warranty left on it. If not call them anyway and see what they say. They still may be able to help.
