I am having the same problem with my earthquake 3.5. The stock gears seemed like a better casting. The replacements look like aluminum and i am in search for a steel gear that will work.  Traxxas t maxx looks close but dont thing the screw holes match. Redcat support said the same to me. Try shimming it. They also said i was the only person with the problem.
