No problem, I'm TDY sitting in a hotel room wishing I could be home flying! Not much else to do tonight.
Sounds like you'll get it dialed. I picked up a few hundred RPM after the first half Gallon but seems stable now.
I highly recommend using the tach for your next adjustments. I adjusted the high end after each low end adjustment and just kept doing it until I ended up with 9500 max (backed off to 9200) and smooth transition with rapid throttle transition. You don't want to be ''slow'' with the stick during these adjustments, idle- 10 seconds/ Slam to MAX/ observe/note symptoms (if any ) return to idle/ adjust/ repeat. It took me about one full tank on the ground and a good tach. I havn't touched it since and have over 2 gallons through the motor.
What is your Max RPM? Idle RPM? Watch out for 4-stroking! If you go full throttle and the RPM starts sagging, you'll need to richen the high end, IN A HURRRY. It can throw the prop and possibly sheer the hub key.
You should have NO trouble powering a 10 lb plane with this engine even with an 18x6. Mine pulls my 12 lb giant stick straight up and out from the runway. It has enough power to slowly pull the Giant stick out of hover but that's not how I usually fly it. I use my GS Extra with a certain 55 cc in it for that.
I use CF props on all my gassers and have had NO problems except the Belle props from TBM were very thick in the hub and kept me in the 8000-8500 Rpm range. I'm looking for a Mejzlik 18x8 and hope to be in the 8500-9000 RPm. Most we can expect without a pipe.
I'll definitely use a tach next time I run it. I have enough power for 3D (but without a lot to spare) in this Yak. It pulls out of a hover OK and carries an upline fairly well. I don't know how much it weighs exactly but 13 pounds sounds about right. I just put it in here break it in and run it before I get my EF Extra together; I plan on using a pipe with that.
Sounds Good! I thought your plane was around 10lbs (my mistake) You might be happier with a good 3D prop as Todd was discussing a few posts back. Get her broken in and tuned you won't be disapointed. Anything you can do to lighten your Yak? I swapped for graphtech gear, carbon spinners/props wheels etc...I also Rarely use any lead. I prefer moving every thing internally before adding an ounce.
Hey 50%You AF? The class has been excellent so far. I work Flight Safety at my home base but my background is Aircraft MX (Propulsion)
