Any of the major brands are good.. Airtronics, JR/Spektrum, Futaba, Hitec, they are all just fine. Pick the one that suits your needs for the best price and go for that one.

One guide would be what most of the people at your local flying club or local flying field are using. That way you can get the best help. In my case, it just happened to be Airtronics. I now use primarilly Spektrum, I have a DX7 and a DX6i. Both are fine systems. It's up to you. Get what works best for you at the best price.
