Considering the Tamiya IR tank. Adding the converting to Airsoft may not be that difficult.

Off the top of my head it seems the recoil unit could be replaced with the airsoft unit as it actuates when firing already and delivers voltage to the unit until switched out by limit switch.

This setup may allow for both IR/AS operating at the same time (minus recoil).
