I have a 32cc Mac saw engine that is setup as you described. I ran it once and with a 18" prop, it turned 7500 rpm top end. On the bottom end opposite the jug was an oiler and it was crankcase pulse operated. I had to plug the pulse hole with a bolt, but other than that it ran fine. It had a rear exhaust with a small muffler which I gutted and used.
