That HP web site still has that item listed on BACKORDER

Could be that the very old trick of RC suppliers just may be well and alive. That is, get enough backorders and money, then we will obtain, manufacture, import, whatever, the item.

Back in the '70s when I owned a Hobby Shop in Mt. Prospect, IL, Carl Goldberg and Top Flite, then separate companies in the Chicago area, did that with most each new item. Once they had enough orders for the item to finance the production, then and only then did they produce the item. LHS's customers came in for 3 months wondering why the LHS did NOT have the item as it had been advertised for 3-6 months in the magazines. (Not much real big mail order and no computers back then.)
Still should work today.
