The proposal is to have an approved engine list and a committee to decide who gets on that list. Buried in the text in the tail end of the rules proposal is the comment:
It is intended that the Sport Jett engine priced under $261 with standard backplate option will be the initial engine on the engine list.
This, however, doesn't preclude the aforementioned committee from turning into an "engine of the week" committee. I'd rather see a spec engine - or a single engine.
424 racing has pretty much been a single engine class (I believe the TTpro .40 is the only engine on the "approved" list) - and I'd like to see 428 go the same route. It's nice not having to re-invest in engines every time something new comes along.
