RE: FUTURE OF 428
Number 7 didn't open for me the first time. But now I see it.
So three years in the wilderness thanks to the LS to obsolete all the existing engines, can't upgrade SS Nelsons, then dropped production of the LS to leave everyone hanging, but wait you can spend a ton of money to covert a SS to LS. Little wonder the numbers of contestants dropped (as shown in the graphs in Proposal #7).
However, the engine needs to be a spec engine with critical dimensions froze for at least 5 years to avoid a repeat of this in the future. This 5 year period should restart the clock at each rule cycle. Any other manufacturers getting into the production of a pylon engine should make everything interchangeable with the Jett Sport, or not be allowed to compete.
The following parts should be covered by a interchangeable requirement:
Head
Piston
Sleeve
Rod
Wrist pin
Crankshaft
Case
Timing of sleeve and crankshaft should be fixed.
Tuned muffler system - zero boost compared to Jett at ground rpm and at 3000 above ground rpm with clipped prop.
