Mody,
Don't worry about the 2.4G module now. I still fly 72MHz and never have to wait for the channel pins anymore. Actually, nobody in our club has to wait for a channel anymore because most of the members use 2.4G and leave all the 72MHz channels freed up.
As far as good general sports airplanes, I really love the Great Planes Escapade. It runs about $100 for a complete ARF with all the control surfaces installed, bolt-on tail that is always straight and true, removable hatch with a pilot figure included, large size wheels and wheel pants, and even the fuel tank is pre-assembled. It also comes with the needed tie-wraps and velcro straps. And it flies great on a typical 46. I have a Super Tigre 51 in it with plenty of power.
Yep, your out of luck but like husk says, it's nothing to worry about now. My 9-C is 72 and it does everything as well or better then the 2.4 other then I have to be careful about using the pin board and walking the line making sure I'm the only one flying on 15. I'm still not a big fan of the 2.4s but most the problems have been figured out and they are working better today. I only mentioned the 2.4 module because the sale is almost over and it was a very good deal. It's going to be a while before I can get the RXs I need but it's a start. I also fly with gas engines and the 2.4 is a big bunch less sensitive to RF noise so my set up will be easier. It's not a must have. Other then having to be careful around other pilots there isn't a lot a 2.4 will do for you. Use what ya got, nothing wrong with it.
