I put zip code 08260 in the search box of http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx and the first club listed has a field near Rt 9 and 668 (Main St) in South Seaville. That looks like about 20 miles on the map. My drive to the field is 45 miles each way.

Before you choose a plane, or any equipment at all, contact the club and arrange to meet the instructors. If you start with stuff they are comfortable with it will probably make it easier for them and for you.
