Hello Jason:

I make models too in fiber glass and I not paint and no apply primer, because if the model is painted into the mold, the external finish is really good. I think that model is made in lost mold technique but I am not entirely sure.

I put photos of my home made Bobcat with mold and the home made Bandit in lost mold.

You look at the difference.
