I was at the Bakersfield fun fly and saw it happen live. What a scene? Previous years they had helicopter drag racing and then someone decided to try helicopter pylon for 94. While I was there, I remember seeing a couple of midairs (one of them is on that site) and the funky chicken incident. As I recall, it was the final race for the gold, there was a fierce battle for 1st and 2nd, and that guy clipped the pole shearing his blades off. Some guy from Team Kalt won the race.

That was a great event.
