Default RE: MLD-35 Gasoline Engine

ORIGINAL: cloudancer03

hey I would love to hear what he has to say a 35 cc is a good sized motor and know the 28 is a decent motor.
OK

In design and component quality, the MLD35 is a far cry from any of the former offerings from SPE or MLD, it has a new ignition capable of any voltage from a 4 cell NiMh/NiCad to a 2 cell Lipo, a Champion Y-82 spark plug, and a Walbro WT 805 carburetor.

Though a fair bit short of the published claims the engine ran well and does have more power than any other in the same class at this time, but that power is not free, it's a full 1/2 pound heavier than the nearest competitor. The biggest issue I see with it though is it's physical size and shape, it looks like any other rear inducted single but it seems very large for it's displacement, it's very short from the cylinder to the prop hub face and very long from the mounting lugs to the rear of the carburetor. Mounting this engine in many currently produce ARF airframes will require engine box modifications and the carb must be inside the engine box, in order to keep the carb out of the engine box it would need stand offs well over 3" long, never do that. I don't view these issuesas bad, just different.

It has a unique 4 bolt pattern for the prop hub and the muffler is mounted on an angled facewith it's unique bolt spacing and port size. This means there are no aftermarket accessories like drill guides or pitts mufflers available at this time.

Like all the other Chinese manufacturers, they still don't bother with ignition timing, it was 38* and due to sensor limitations I was only able to get it down to 31* and Iran it like that.
