I have used glue stitches with good results on 1/4 scale, it is tough to get them the same size. A little practice and it is not too hard. The key is to slightly thin Elmers white glue with water and use a syringe with a 18ga needle. it takes longer to mark the location of the stitches than to put then on once you get a rythem going.
The tapes from Pink-It go very well over either type of stitches.
