RE: HB .61 PDP
I like the performance the stock HB. 61 PDP offers. Comparable to power on a modern OS or Magnum .61, but definitely not anywhere near as economical. However, it is what I already own.
I like the ballistic and classic pattern ships very much. Honestly, to do them justice, YS would probably be the only choice. But... I am thinking about investing the money I would use to purchase the newer, more powerful engine into my UFO build. A tuned pipe is pretty much being purchased regardless the engine. So the cost involved for the engine would go a long way towards finishing the project sooner. I can always invest in a better powerplant in the future- so long as I don't augger the UFO into the ground first. (God forbid!) I do think the HB 61 PDP has some potential. Enough to get me going on the UFO and leaning some basic classic pattern maneuvering.
I appreciate the banter over this engine and the options I am asking about. This is a great learning experience for me.
Besides, It does sound like a piped HB.61 PDP would still offer more than a stock arrangement.
One thing not addressed so far is the tank size/economy issue. I would imagine a 14oz tank over the CG with a perry pump would be in order?
The Perry carbonmaker stock on this engine works well with the pump. Doesn't it?
(I hope these last two questions are appropriate to this thread)
