I also have several of these data screens. Must say, it was very easy to cut the cable to length and re-solder it to the unit.
It looks like the soldering tabs at the backside had been designed big enough for anyone like me with little experience in soldering for doing it right.
I would prefer this option of cutting it to shorter length more than to consider an extension cable one day...
