Hi there,
This subject has been touched on in some other posts but there seems to be no clear answer. I have just purchased my 1st Heli, an Esky Honeybee (4ch) off ebay. Have tried to get the TX to talk to my simulator (FMS) through the supplied serial port cable but am getting nowhere!!! Have tried following the info on tom's site, http://www.tti-us.com/sim/ but still not getting anywhere. Has anyone managed to get this setup to work on Windows XP through the supplied serial cable ???
Thanks,
Nige

You need to use a programmed called PPJoy for FMS with your TX in windows 2000/XP.
This link will tell you basicly how to install it and get it running. Some minor things on your machine may be different (such as the text in the list box in PPjoy) then are on the site: http://www.rc-sim.de/art_engine_en/a...hp?article=118
Go down to "Configuring PPJoy for using PPM radios under Win XP", and there are the directions.
To download PPjoy, go here (you can also get more help in the manual on this site):

Good luck!

Serial cables work with PPJoy too. When you add a joy stick, do this:
Click "Add..."
and change the setting in Parallel port: to Virtual port
I've heard of this being done with other peoples computer. Give it a try.

Just tried with PPJoy this afternoon. As camra88 says, select Virtual Port. After that, if you want to run other flight sims like FS2002:
- Run PPJoyCom from the Start menu.
- Select the right COM.
- Choose Zhen Hua 5 byte protocol. Seems like only this protocol works properly. This is not just a setup program. You have to keep this running to have the controls effective.
- Bring up Game Controllers from Control Panel.
- Double click PPJoy Virtual joystick.
- Select Settings Tab.
- Click on Calibrate... Press Next after each step since there's no button on the Esky Tx.
- When not sure which axis Windows is asking to move thru' range, just move all sticks in all directions.
- Click on Test Tab to test different controls.
I'm using the Esky Tx to run MS Flight Simulator 2002 fine. The only trick is to reverse throttle control in FS2002. I choose tower view to control a Cessna like I'm piloting an RC plane. Pretty cool! I also play with some helis but I found the much slower response of a "full-size" heli makes it easier to control smoothly.

I don't have the Esky 6ch Tx but I believe it should work similarly. FMS version 7x doesn't run on my XP. I have to run FMS 8x. I could never get the VXD to work with the Tx. Instead, I did what I mentioned above to similate an XP-compatible joystick. Then from FMS select joystick instead of the VXDs. With my 4ch Tx, some of the "axes" and all of the buttons don't apply. I believe this is where the 6ch Esky Tx makes the difference.
Remember the key is to choose Zhen Hua 5 byte protocol (I believe that's why the VXDs don't work). For diagnostics, check the "Beep..." checkbox. If XP is receiving signals (even if protocol is not correct), you get beeps from the speaker (yes, the PC speaker, not from the sound card). You'll get correct response on the Game Controller panel (from Control Panel) ONLY if you select the right protocol. These should provide enough diagnostics to narrow down the problem.
BTW, FMS has better graphics and probably better use of 3D graphics card functions. However, the physics is far far from real (unless there are some hidden parameters that I don't know of). Seems like the True-flight 3D (the one that comes w/ Esky Honey Bee) runs a better physics model. The helis in FMS have instant cyclic response. The helis drift fore/aft/sideways way much slower than in real world. A flick of the right stick, I can see the heli tilt 10 degrees on the side and just starts slowly drifting in that direction. In the real world, a micro electric heli drifts way much faster, and starts before you even see it starts tilting.

I've opened up my cable before. It's not a simple "adaptor" cable. There's actually some electronics inside the 9/25-pin connector case. Didn't take a close look at the #s on the chip though.
